Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2, 2026

Who we are

captionedphones.org is an independent informational website about captioned telephone service. We are not a government agency and are not affiliated with or endorsed by any government agency or program.

This policy explains what we collect when you use this site or submit the request form, how we use it, and who we share it with.

Information you give us

When you submit the request form, we collect:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your telephone number
  • Whether the phone is for you or for a family member
  • Your confirmation that you are 18 or older
  • Your permission to be contacted by phone call and text message, the exact consent wording you were shown, and the date, time, and IP address of your submission

Because this service is for people with hearing loss, the fact that you submitted a request may itself suggest something about your hearing. We treat that as sensitive and limit its use to connecting you with a provider.

Information collected automatically

We collect standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type and version, device type, the pages you view, the time of your visit, the page that referred you, and advertising click identifiers in the web address (for example fbclid or utm_campaign) that indicate which advertisement brought you here.

Your permissions for calls and texts

When you submit the request form, you give express written consent for CaptionedPhones.org and our partner captioned telephone provider — including their agents, affiliates, and subcontracted call centers — to contact you at the telephone number you provided by telephone call (including automatically dialed calls and calls using a prerecorded or artificial voice)and SMS or text message, about captioned telephone service and your request. Both permissions are required to submit the form, because calls and texts are the only ways the program makes contact.

This consent is not a condition of purchasing anything, and it is not required to receive captioned telephone service.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. You can stop texts by replying STOP, get help by replying HELP, or ask to be removed during any call. You may also email info@captionedphones.org at any time.

The full terms of this permission are in our Terms of Service. We keep a record of the consent language displayed to you and when you submitted it.

How we use your information

  • To pass your request to a captioned telephone service provider so a representative can contact you
  • To respond to questions you send us
  • To measure which advertisements and pages lead people to request service, so we can improve them
  • To detect fraudulent or abusive submissions
  • To meet legal and recordkeeping obligations, including proof of consent

Who we share it with

Captioned telephone service providers. This is the purpose of the form. Your name, telephone number, and your consent record — including the wording you agreed to and the date, time, and IP address of your submission — are transmitted to the participating provider so they can call or text you. Their own privacy policy governs what they do with it afterward, and we do not control their practices.

Service vendors. Companies that host this website, deliver our messages, and provide analytics, acting on our instructions.

Legal. When required by law, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.

We do not sell your personal informationfor money. Sharing information with advertising platforms for measurement, as described below, may be considered “sharing” or a “sale” under some state privacy laws; you may opt out using the contact details below.

Advertising and measurement

This site uses the Meta Pixel and Meta's Conversions API to measure the performance of our advertising. When you submit the form, a hashed — irreversibly scrambled — version of details such as your name and telephone number may be sent to Meta so it can match your request to an advertisement. Meta receives these scrambled values rather than your plain-text information.

You can control advertising personalization in your Meta account settings, and most browsers and ad blockers can block these scripts entirely. Blocking them does not affect your ability to submit the form.

How long we keep it

We keep request records and consent records for as long as needed to provide the service and to demonstrate that consent was given, typically at least the period required by applicable telecommunications and consumer protection rules, and then delete or anonymize them.

Your choices and rights

You may ask us to access, correct, or delete your information, or to stop contacting you. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under your state's privacy law, including the right to opt out of targeted advertising and to appeal a denied request.

To make a request, email info@captionedphones.org. We may need to verify your identity before acting. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Children

This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
